Tile Buying Tips for Every Space

Choosing the right tile isn’t just about looks. This guide explains how to pick the perfect material, texture, and size based on your space and lifestyle.

How do I choose the right tile or floor type for my project?

The best fit depends on moisture, foot traffic, comfort, maintenance, and budget. As a quick guide:

Plan quantities with our Flooring Area Calculator, review Installation & Care, and note natural color variations. Still unsure? Request a free design consultation or samples.

What’s the difference between SPC, LVT, and porcelain tile?
  • SPC (Stone Polymer Composite): rigid core, waterproof, excellent dimensional stability—great for high-traffic, pet-friendly areas.
  • LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile): softer and resilient underfoot, broad design range, straightforward installation—good for rentals and lower-impact rooms.
  • Porcelain Tile: dense, hard, and highly water-resistant; many wood-look porcelains suit wet zones and some are frost-rated. Always check each product’s specs (slip rating, frost rating, warranty) against your exact application.
Can I order samples before making a decision?

  • SPC (Stone Polymer Composite): rigid core, waterproof, dent-resistant, and highly dimensionally stable—great for busy households and pet-friendly spaces. Browse SPC options.
  • LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile): resilient, quieter, and comfortable underfoot; wide style range; straightforward installation—good for rentals and lower-impact rooms. See LVT selections.
  • Porcelain Tile: dense, hard, and water-resistant; ideal for wet zones and some outdoor/freeze-thaw settings—always check product specs. Explore wood-look porcelain.

For your exact application, confirm slip/frost ratings, installation method, and care in Installation & Care.

Is the design consultation service really free?

Yes—our design consultation is complimentary with no purchase obligation. Upload a room photo and your preferences; we typically reply in 1–3 business days with style pointers, layout ideas, and suggested samples. You can also reach us via Contact Us.

What are your best options for renters or temporary spaces?

  • LVT (luxury vinyl): budget-friendly, comfortable, and easier to install/remove—great for non-permanent setups. See available styles.
  • Peel-and-stick vinyl: a convenient renter pick; confirm removability on your substrate and always test a small area first. Browse peel-and-stick options.

Before installing, review Installation & Care and confirm with your landlord/lease.

I’m overwhelmed. Where should I start?

Begin with a low-commitment step: order a sample kit and/or request a free design suggestion (upload a room photo, budget, and preferred looks). You can also try the AR Visualizer to see styles in your space and use our Flooring Area Calculator to estimate quantity. If you’d like help at any point, contact us—we’ll narrow options and recommend the right samples.

Do you ship internationally? Will I be charged import duties or taxes?

We currently ship to the contiguous 48 U.S. states by default. Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories may be available by manual approval and can incur extra freight—please contact us for a quote. We don’t ship internationally or to APO/FPO/DPO addresses at this time.

For factory-direct orders into the U.S., we handle the customs clearance process—you won’t be asked to file customs paperwork. Any applicable state sales tax is calculated and shown at checkout. For shipping timelines and details, see our Shipping & Order Fulfillment Policy.
